Worth A Thousand Words

My friend who got married the week before Christmas has been sharing some wedding photos on her facebook.  This is one of the photos she posted, a capture of me tying the bow on my daughter's silver flower girl dress...

For some reason I love it a lot.  I think it's for a few reasons, actually.

One, because it's a portrait of a mother's hands.  That's what they do.  Tie bows, wipe tears, pack lunches, tuck in covers, hold little hands.

Second, because it was a special day my daughter and I were privileged to share.  A trip for just the two of us, a memory surrounded by love and beauty and covenant and celebration.

Third, because right before I tied this I tried to iron the bow and burned a hole in it.  I'm serious. And that was okay.  We didn't panic.  Just made do. Imperfections are a part of life.  Imperfection is okay.  Beautiful even.

It has been said that a picture is worth a thousand words.  That sometimes one single image conveys a multitude of thoughts and emotions. That is why I love this photo.

It is not just a picture, it's a snapshot of life.
