The workshop leader talked about a book called Simply SenseSational Christmas by Terry Willits. This book gives women simple ideas on how to incorporate aspects that appeal to the five senses (taste, touch, scent, sight, and hearing) in their Christmas decorating. The ideas truly are simple and wonderful, and the book encourages a home and Christ-centered focus during this season. After the retreat my mom got me a copy of the book, and I looked at it over and over as a new wife. It inspired me to incorporate SenseSational decorating at Christmas, and all year round. I have found that doing so helps make the atmosphere of our home feel cozy, calm, and right.
I still pull out this book each Christmas season for inspiration and reflection on my very first Christmas as a wife to Jimmy. It is available online, and you may find it to be a good resource.
I would encourage you to intentionally look for ways to make your home appeal to the senses, especially this time of year. You will love the feelings of warmth and home it brings! For example, just think of...
The taste of a hot cup of cocoa smothered in marshmallows or a special Christmastime treat...
The touch of a cozy Christmas quilt, a snuggly child watching their favorite Christmas movie, or a magic Christmas bell held in a child's hand...
The scent of a gingerbread house on the kitchen table or a Christmas candle burning quietly...
The sounds of a clock ringing out Christmas carols on the hour, or those Christmas favorites you look forward to hearing year after year...
And most importantly, the sight of the Christmas story through the eyes of a child...
Wishing every one of you a truly SenseSational Christmas!
