I Am Turning Into My Mother

Well, not exactly.  But I do find myself doing a lot of things she used to do, and used one of her thrifty tricks of the trade the other night!

You know how you always have extra hot dog buns?  (Just saying that reminds me of one of my favorites scenes from one of my favorite movies!)  Well, when we were little my mom used to use those extra hot dog and even hamburger buns to make garlic bread and I remember loving the way it tasted.

Last week I made ravioli and meat sauce but didn't have any garlic bread in the freezer.  However, I had a few leftover hot dog buns that would have probably gotten tossed since we were out of hot dogs.  Remembering my mom's old trick I heated up the oven, split the buns in half, spread them with butter, and sprinkled them with garlic powder and garlic salt.  After a few minutes in the oven we had crusty, tasty garlic bread!

Thanks, Mom!

  1. There are worse things than turning into YOUR mother -- she's quite a lady!!
I found this little plaque one time that was cut into the shape of a mirror that says "Mirror, mirror on the wall, I am my mother after all!" I got it for Patti!
