A Thanksgiving Thought {Yet I Will Rejoice}

I was reminded of this passage by my dad on Sunday.  It comes from the little book of Habakkuk, a book of the Bible with major themes of struggle and doubt, God's sovereignty, and hope.

Though the fig tree may not blossom,
Nor fruit be on the vines;
Though the labor of the olive may fail,
And the fields yield no food;
Though the flock may be cut off from the fold,
And there be no herd in the stalls -

Yet I will rejoice in the Lord,
I will joy in the God of my salvation.

Habakkuk 3:17-18

The choice to rejoice.

A reminder that Thanksgiving can involve choosing.

It's a choice that can transform this and every day.

  1. Awe, what a precious cross-stitch picture that is. Jennifer, with my family we going around the room every Thanksgiving to really take the time to say what we're thankful to God for...His blessings on us that year. (This is a long standing tradition to give Him glory.) There have been some years that I had to struggle to get something out, because I was so defeated in life. Looking back on those years, my joy was nearly depleated, and I guess I was "choosing" to see. Although this particular struggle of mine is still there, this year I began to see a change in my gratitude. It's been more like what you've shared about. Seeing God and being thankful in little and big, good and even bad times. I recongnized that when we went around I found it easier to share...the joy is coming back!
    I am blessed by the nuggets of truth you share with us!
    Happy Thanksgiving to your family!
